Met(al) Gala 2016

Tonight is the night I wait for all year.  As I sit anxiously awaiting the red carpet arrivals, I can’t help but imagine what I myself would don to Queen Wintour’s coveted Met Gala.  This is the time for our favorite celebs and their stylists to push the limits of fashion and get them out of their comfort zones.

Tonight’s theme, Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology, is exactly the theme I wanted to see.  There were a lot of hits tonight, and a lot of looks that should be transported back to outer space.

Personal Faves:

Poppy Delevigne Poppy2

Poppy Delevingne is serving up vampy, space flapper realness in this tiered Marchesa.  This plunging number is coated in jewels, and hugs her body in all the right ways.  Pure opulence Poppy.

Jourdan Dunn Jourdan Dunn

Burberry model Jourdan Dunn nailed the theme with this futuristic, body hugging Balmain dress.  She is LITERALLY dripping in silver, and we are OBSESSED.

Ciara   Ciara

Ciara is dropping all of our jaws in this H&M gown.  She is EMBRACING the theme tonight with her gorgeous silver hair… and do you see that ROCK on her finger?! Slay girl.

Least Faves:

Taylor Swift taylor swift

Taylor we <3 you SO much… but I don’t think we are ready for this side of you.  The bleach blonde hair, super dark lip, and knee high strappy heels are competing too heavily with her Louis Vuitton, space mermaid dress.  Stop growing up Taylor! I don’t know about you, but we want you to feel 22 again!

Demi Lovato Demi-Lovato

This one makes me sad! Our confident girl Demi looks extremely stiff and uncomfortable in this sequin Moschino.  The gold and black detail does nothing for the gown.  We’ve seen a lot better from her, but at least her body is still rocking, and her face reads fierce, fierce, fierce.

Overall, I was pretty underwhelmed with the majority of the ladies tonight.  A few winners doused in metallic glamour…and too many hard misses to count! Here’s to hoping next year they push the boundaries a little further, as I dream about what the theme will be! This space cadet is signing off!

AFW in Review

Austin Fashion Week, blew in and blew out as quickly as those magnificent Texas storms do! With a week leading up to three solid nights of runway shows there were plenty of fashion moments to fall in love with.

Here are our top picks from the week!

Teg’s Pick:

Valentine 1 Valentine 2 Valentine 3 Valentine 4

“ I honestly couldn’t pick just one look from Amanda Valentine’s collection in Saturday night’s finale.  Her choice of colors and the way she blocks them together makes each piece seem effortless, flattering and above all else, comfortable!  Just one month out of having my second child, every morning I find myself picking out something black to wear, now I’m absolutely coveting these bright pops of color in perfect cuts to feel put together and chic.  Do you think she makes burp clothes to match?”

Soni’s Pick:

Valentine 5

“I’m one of those gals that LIVES in black, so of course my favorite look includes a cute black romper from Amanda Valentine- but LOOK there is a pop of color hiding in there, which I love to contrast such a dark look. This cape is stunning, I’m mesmerized, a perfect little number for a day out at Zilker Park followed by a fun dance party somewhere dirty at night!”

Tonay’s Pick:

“This look is simple yet chic, I’m totally living for this asymmetrical Melissa Fleis dress. The hooded cardigan adds a bit of edge to the look. I’m also obsessed with the playful colors and patterns of this, This Is SLOANE – Sloane Lenz, dress. It’s giving me the 60’s/70’s vibes that I really adore.”

“Ohhhh separates!! How I love theee. This offering by Something by Sonjia – Sojia Williams completely hits the mark.

At first I was not sure about the pants/skort combo but the more I look at this image, the more I am enamored with it.

Because the pant ends right below the knee but a few inches above the ankle, it meets that sweet spot that looks good on so many body types. Using the Fall ’16 color of the season for the pants and corresponding stripe throughout this fab duster, was right on trend with the blue frenzy WWD predicted back in February.

Hey, if blue is good enough for Karl L to feature it throughout his Chanel RTW ’16 show, it’s good enough for us plebes!

But I digress! The genius of this outfit is that you can style it in a million different ways. Prefer biker boots and a camisole underneath? Works. Strappy stilettos and a vintage concert tee. Works. And do not get me started on how many pairs of ankle boots I have in my closet, right now that would work with this. *Sigh*  Taking the pieces apart, the pants and jacket work with a myriad of options.

The genius of this outfit is sans the crop top, which by the way looks amazing on this gorgeous creature, it is not defined by age or trend. Well, the pants are slightly trendy but well made enough to be an investment piece. So many different women of so many different ages could work the crap out of this. Oh my gosh, pair the pants with a soft gray hoodie and hip trainers!!!

See?? Endless!

Thank you so much Austin Fashion Week for bringing this image before my eyes! I now have my fall 2016 wish list started!”
